SCA INFORMATION
Membership # 31854
Originally, 15th century Katherine O'Kelley was to be represented in the Shire of Nant-y-derwyddon in the Kingdom of
Meridies, but that soon changed. Instead, she became
Valdis (Spirit of Slaughter) Isbrandsdottir (daughter of the Iron Sword), due to her love of Norway and Northern Mythology. She became a member of the Known World in
1984 yet spent much time fading in and out due to mundane commitments. She eventually became Provost for the Shire, having been outwitted by Lord Corwin of Nottingham into
accepting that position.

She received her Award of Arms the following year,
6/5/1993 from Their Majesties King Brian and Queen Aeruin.. Kingdom

of the College of Arms of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (Valdis
Isbrandsdottir listed in the Meridies Area for Names that have been accepted and
registered.)
Lord Corwin, who was by chance the one to introduce her to the Known World,
invited Valdis into his Household as Lady of House Ravenloft. Eventually, during the course of
working closely with a mercenary group, The Free Company of the Galley
Lionslayer headed by Christophe de Dunglas, The House of
Ravenloft was asked to join Lionslayer for their ties were strong and friendship
deep.
Not being active in the past few years, I've no idea what has become of
Galley Lionslayer. Rumors abound that Lionslayer has fallen prey to some fowl
deed and that the ship has laid anchor upon some distant shore far away.

Mundania has crept in yet again which has prevented me from venturing forth
to even the local Shire of Nant-y-derwyddon, and we also have a new home in the Kingdom of Caid
(Big Bear City) where we plan to visit
any and all neighboring SCAdians. Nearby is
the Barony of Dreiburgen, the Barony of Gyldenhold, Canton of Mons Draconis, and
the Shire of Al-Sahid. Where we'll end up is anyone's guess.
In the SCA my interests include: Archery and Researching many subjects such as:
Names, Religions, Lifestyles, Herbs, Gaming, Costuming, Brewing, History, Literature, Music, and many other arts
and crafts of the Middle Ages. I am not myself proficient, but have a great
interest in learning and gathering information.

The
Academy of Saint Gabriel does
historical research on names and heraldry, primarily for history hobbyists
interested in re-creating medieval and Renaissance Western cultures. The Academy
will give you information about the authenticity of your name or arms; and if
they believe it could be more authentic, they will suggest ways to improve it.
However, they cannot help you with questions about genealogy or family arms.
They also generally do not help people trace the origins of modern surnames.
